The Greenway Water Treatment Plant for the City of Peoria in Arizona was fast
tracked. The integrator that was originally hired by the general contractor was
kicked off the project for failure to do any work. Their bond was enforced and
bonding company went in search of a new integrator. We were awarded the contract
under the condition that we could still make the schedule. The system included
Modicon Quantum PLC's and with Modbus Plus Repeaters with dual fiber ring for
communications. Even some of the RIO was fiber linked. The SCADA servers were
redundant using Intellution iFIX for the HMI. Two of the PC's were touch- screen
panel mount PC's.
We had to take incomplete information that we could get from the general
contractor that they had received from the previous integrator and design
panels, design communications, build panels, write PLC program, and create HMI
screens in time for the Factory Acceptance Test that was only five months away.
There were many 18 hour days over the next few months, but we completed
everything on schedule. I also feel that I was able to create some of the best
HMI screen I have ever completed to date. Here are some of the screen shots:
Main Menu,
Bar Screen,
Ozone Contactor,
Filter,
Sludge Thickener,
Polymer &
Alum . We mocked up the entire
system in our shop complete with fiber optic connections for the
Factory Acceptance Test. I was also
responsible for the communications on this project. I have included one close-up
photo of a communication side panel.
The system has Modicon Quantum PLC's, Modbus Plus communications, Fiber
Optics, and Intellution iFIX.
